SAP Engineering Control Center (SAP ECTR) is a complete solution that allows you to efficiently manage your entire product lifecycle. SAP ECTR enables you to store, organize and monitor data. SAP ECTR also provides the necessary tools for automated processing and reconciliation of design and product data in various formats. The interface combines CAD and PDM/PLM data on a platform that can be deployed for both SAP S/4HANA Public Cloud and on-premise.

SAP Product Data Integration (PDI) is a solution for the centralized management and integration of product data from various sources within a company. PDI makes it possible to seamlessly integrate product information into SAP PLM (BTP) and ensure that all departments have access to consistent and up-to-date data.SAP PDI is the technology behind the connection of CAD systems with SAP PLM (BTP). SAP PDI interfaces are particularly suitable for users of the SAP S/4HANA Public and Private Cloud.

Yes, with the SAP ECTR integrations and the SAP PDI interfaces, you can use all common CAD structures in SAP PLM.

SAP PLM (BTP) and SAP ECTR basically fulfill the same purpose: linking engineering data with commercial data.

The choice between SAP PLM (BTP) and SAP ECTR depends on the provision of your SAP ERP system S/4HANA as well as your individual requirements and wishes.

Both our SAP ECTR interfaces and the SAP PDI interfaces integrate your engineering data from popular CAD systems into SAP PLM. Which solution is right for you depends on whether you use SAP S/4HANA on-premise, in the private or public cloud and on your individual preferences.

• The SAP ECTR interfaces can be used for SAP S/4HANA on-premise and in the private cloud.
• The SAP PDI interfaces can be used with SAP S/4HANA in the private or public cloud.

The SAP S/4HANA ERP system is available in three different options:

• SAP S/4HANA On-Premise: In this case, the ERP system is installed on a local server or on a local or off-site data center for the maintenance and provision of data and applications. The (internal) IT infrastructure must be open for system adaptations. On the other hand, operating your own local servers and data centers is costly. This is also true with regard to the high IT security standards that must be met. As an SAP customer, you are responsible for keeping releases up to date. 
• SAP S/HANA Private Cloud: Applications and services run in their own environment, which offers typical cloud benefits, such as maintenance-free IT tools. The private cloud enables more individual customization than the public cloud and often contains the latest SAP developments that are exclusively available for the cloud, e.g. AI solutions. In addition, customizations and various projects are possible at any time. A complete managed service is also offered by SAP when choosing the SAP S/4HANA Private Cloud.
• SAP S/HANA Public Cloud: As a customer, you share the hardware and network infrastructure. Customers can use cloud-typical added value via a web browser. Data sovereignty remains with you and the data cannot be viewed by other customers. If you opt for the SAP S/4HANA Public Cloud, SAP offers a complete managed service. As a customer, you also have to participate in regular update cycles. The solution is particularly suitable for standardized process landscapes. Customization options are available within existing standards via the Business Technology Platform (BTP).
